£4.5m logistics scheme

Green light for £4.5m logistics scheme

Exciting plans to create a thriving new industrial estate catering for up to nine businesses in Coventry have been given the green light.

Wigley has received full planning permission from Coventry City Council to transform Stonebridge Trading Estate, on Rowley Drive.

The site currently holds a single 34,000 sq ft unit which will be demolished, making way for nine smaller units ranging between 1,500 sq ft and 5,000 sq ft in size.

The £4.5 million scheme, which will provide up to 50,000 sq ft in total floor space, has been designed to cater for rising market demand for smaller industrial units, and support wider regeneration plans in the Whitley area.

The site is located across the A45 from Jaguar Land Rover’s Whitley headquarters, and is in close proximity to the proposed Gigafactory at Coventry Airport.

Work at Rowley Drive is expected to begin in the spring, ready for completion in 2024.

Mike Vining, Land and Development Director at Wigley, said: “We are delighted to gain approval for our plans at Rowley Drive.

“This is a site which has been in our ownership since 2015, but it has never fully been utilised to its potential.

“Creating nine smaller units instead of one single premises matches what we are seeing in the market, with demand for smaller industrial space in the area high.

“We look forward to sharing further news on this site as the scheme progresses.”

Plans have been drawn up with the support of architect Wendy Griffin from Nicol Thomas.

The scheme will create storage and light industrial space in a well-connected area, located next to the A45 with strong links to the national transport network including the M45, M1, M40 and M6.
